WORKING YOUR WAY INTO CIVIC LEADERSHIP

Owning a business sets a person apart from the average working person. You will have the opportunity to participate in many prestigious organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Jaycees and other professional groups that do good things for the community. Your attendance at one or more of these organizations can call attention to your business and increase your sales. People tend to do business with people they know. You can increase your visibility in the community to benefit your store, and the other professionals you meet might be just who you've been looking for as far as a printer, an insurance agent, an accountant, etc..

The active participants in civic organizations are sometimes the 'movers and shakers" of the community. They are enthusiastic and have dedicated ambition either to advancing the community or their own personal agenda. Many have political aspirations. Regardless of whether or not you desire to be a decision maker for your community, it is worthwhile to know who the decision makers are and how their decisions can affect your business. By virtue of being a business owner, the opportunity exists to voice your opinions and take part in shaping the future of your town.
